The ECSC is intended for the use when the contracts do not require sophisticated management techniques, compromise straightforward work and impose only low risks on both the Employer and the Contractor.
The beauty of the NEC3 Engineering and Construction Short Contract is that it can be used in a wide variety of commercial situations, for a wide variety of work and in any location. It has also been written in clear and simple language and its structure is easy and fairly straightforward to understand. The short contract shares many of the characteristics and has more or less the same structure as the ECC. Many of the provisions, such as those relating to early warnings, programmes and compensation events have, however, been shortened in order to suit the simpler nature of the contracts on which they will be used. On the flipside, however, there are no main or secondary options to choose from but only provisions for making certain pricing arrangements, which sometimes cause confusion.
This training course has been researched and developed with one aim in mind…rather than simply running through the clauses in their numerical sequence we intend progressing through the stages of the project from start to completion and then dealing with the relevant clauses as they apply to each of these stages. And wherever possible we will illustrate each application by way of real-life case studies.
