Specialist in Commercial Construction Matters
Francois Spies currently works as an independent consultant to the project, construction and engineering sectors, where he specialises in providing commercial guidance to his clients. These include the negotiating and drafting of various construction contracts, guidance in the administration of the contacts during the execution of the works, as well as the compilation, or defence of any claims for additional time and costs raised. In addition to this, he also guides and represents clients at alternative dispute resolution proceedings, which includes mediation, adjudication and arbitration.
Francois holds qualifications in both engineering and project management, and has been a professionally registered Construction Project Manager with the SACPCMP for over 10 years. He has also completed dispute resolution and contract law studies through both the London School of Mediation, as well as the Association of Arbitrators, and he is recognised as a Fellow of the Association of Arbitrators (SA), as well as the Charted Institute of Arbitration (UK).
Over the past 22 years, Francois has worked on all sides of the table, as the Employer, the Engineer and the Contractor, for companies such as BHP Billiton, Metorex, WorleyParsons, Alstom and Basil Read, just to name a few.
So, his in-depth knowledge of the construction industry coupled with his diverse and holistic experience make him an ideal Course Leader and a very welcome addition to the Alusani® Course Leader faculty.
