As a Safety Officer/Manager you must do presentations during your day-to-day functions from safety inductions to toolbox talks to presenting the very latest stats to the management team…but what happens if you just aren’t naturally a gifted presenter?
Although you are most probably very well versed in the technical nature of your subject…this does not automatically make you a dynamic presenter! It is all too often that a good message is lost simply because of poor delivery.
The reality is that safety presentations are very different from ‘regular’ or marketing-focused presentations simply because you have to convey much more detailed and often complex information.
And with today’s tech savvy audiences becoming more and more sophisticated, sloppy presentations simply won’t do and in fact they do more of a disservice to the message you are trying to get across, a poor presentation can also severely damage your reputation and credibility leaving you a laughing stock…and who wants that?
This training course is specifically geared towards anyone involved in the safety field who has to explain the fundamentals of safety to guys on the shop floor to the most complex and technical information in a compelling way. It will teach you how to give your audience the information they need without boring them or killing them with techno-babble.
It has also been designed in such a way to be as practical and as interactive as possible. So, no matter if you are preparing for your very first safety presentation or if you’ve given hundreds, this course will help you to improve your safety-focused presentation skills as well as mastering the tools and techniques that will give your presentations impact and flair.
In a nutshell we can guarantee that by attending this 2-day training course that you will develop powerful presentation skills and your audience won’t forget you…or your safety presentation in a hurry!

Plus, Course Participants will be given an overview and understanding of their responsibility for supervising and helping to oversee safety in a construction site environment.

Accident & Incident Investigation
You may think that technical report writing is a talent that a few lucky people are born with. And because technical reports are very very different from your typical business reports it of course does come more naturally to some, but you definitely shouldn’t buy into the myth that only gifted people can write technical reports. If you’ve always told yourself — and others — that you just simply don’t have a gift for technical writing, it’s time for you to empower yourself and dispel that notion!
With the right training, you can produce professional and polished technical and safety-focused reports that are quick and easy to read and understand.
So, you recognise that having better technical report writing skills is vital to your safety career. But you are worried that this is going to be 2 days of boring lectures. Don’t worry – unlike other generic report writing courses available, we have gone out of our way to design a training programme that is engaging, interactive but above all else practical for safety professionals!
By attending this 2-day course you’ll learn, step-by-step, how to shape your thoughts and structure, draft and write clear and concise technical reports about any safety-related subject that requires a detailed technical explanation, diagram, chart, as well as jargon that needs to be understood by technical and non-technical readers alike.
Our approach to this training course is to use a detailed safety-focused case study to teach you, the technical report writer how best to present technical safety information to the readers of your report so that they understand the concepts and can apply them in their work. This course is not intended to explain technical subjects to non-technical readers or report writers. The course will also cover in detail the skills required to explain any concepts to non-technical readers using clear, straight-forward, simple explanations.
Presentation Skills for Safety Officers/Managers
It’s no secret that prevention is your best line of defence when it comes to dealing with injuries and accidents…but they still happen and sadly it is a fact of life on any construction project! The reality is that it is a pretty tall order to start a construction project and finish it without a single accident or incident.
It is because of this fact that Government has revised the 2003 Construction Regulations and promulgated the 2014 updated Construction Regulations which have such significant and far-reaching consequences to the actual application of the OHS Act for the construction and engineering industries.
By now you should have a handle on the actual regulations and what they mean for your construction works and you should have the correct safety practitioners registered with the SACPCMP as required.
So, this 2-day training course (aligned to the requirements of SAQA US 244283) is perfectly timed as it focuses on how to promote a safe system of work on a construction site and allows you to develop a comprehensive Safety Management programme which includes the most practical, effective and measurable control procedures.
A Safety Management programme is a proven systematic approach that allows you to thoroughly examine all of the applicable work processes to accurately identify risks on a construction site. It then goes a step further and allows you to quantify the risks and specify work methods to either eliminate the hazards or to control and minimise the overall risks on any construction project.
So, using an actual construction-focused case study, this training course has been researched and developed to take you practically through the entire Safety Management process from start to finish. By the end of this training course you will understand the theory as well as how to develop a Safety Management programme to meet the requirements of the Construction Regulations and the OHS Act which will allow you to effectively manage workplace and safety hazards on any building site.
Please note that this is not a credit-bearing course.
Accident & Incident Investigation
The upgrade to the contract, which is largely used by state-owned entities, was necessary due to the fact that there were a number of grey areas that needed clarification. GCC Course Leader at Alusani Skills & Training Network®, Steve du Toit, says that the most significant revision to the contract is a clause that gives contractors the right to suspend work on current projects if they are not paid.
“This is a major breakthrough in contract agreements. In the past, contractors were never able to suspend work on an ongoing project, regardless of whether a payment certificate was issued or not, but now this right has been formally carried over to the GCC 2015,” says du Toit, who has practiced as an attorney for over two decades and has defended individual contractors, clients and large construction companies in legal cases pertaining to construction and building projects.
du Toit says that a combination of two factors contribute to ongoing misunderstanding of contractors’ rights with regards to non-payment.
“The first factor is that contractors simply don’t always know what their rights are and they have to deal with the issue of non-payment both professionally and legally. Secondly, those who understand their rights are often reluctant to enforce them because they don’t want to upset the relationship with the client, engineer or principal agent. This is understandable seeing as it could impact future contract opportunities down the line,” explains du Toit.
Instead of opting to sit back, wait and hope the issue will resolve itself (in other words that a contractor will get paid at some point down the line); the revision enables contractors to be more proactive.
“Thanks to the latest GCC revision, it isn’t a case of ceasing works in order to demand payment, which many contractors would be hesitant to do. The GCC 2015 contract enables contractors to put forward a case that shows you are unable to work because you don’t have the capital to continue to fund the project without payment. This makes it much easier for contractors to enforce their rights and continue doing business in a way that makes it financially feasible for everyone involved in the project,” says du Toit.
du Toit says that while this is the major revision that contractors need to take note of in the GCC 2015, there are also more subtle terminology changes that he will be discussing at the upcoming Alusani® CPD – accredited course dedicated to GCC 2015.
The next course will be held on 15 & 16 March 2016 in Durban.]]>
